Peekskill is not believable

March
7

The three-time defending state champion Red Devils are going to Glens Falls for a fourth straight time, searching for the history as we discussed below.

And they are doing it in jaw-dropping fashion. They have won their last two games—championship games—by a combined 110 points. Be afraid, you other Final Four teams. Be very afraid. I mean, Daquann Brickhouse is just flying, Ralph Watts, Elliot Watson and Darien Thomas are playing great, and now Peekskill has a deep bench.

Jamesville-DeWitt, which Peekskill beat by three in the Slam Dunk at County Center in December, plays Bishop Gibbons—which bombed an Albany Academy team which Peekskill beat by four in Albany in January—today in the other regional final. The winner of that game gets Peekskill next, and you have to figure this will be the Red Devils biggest challenge this year.

As for Mookie Jones, I asked him tonight: which is more accurate, that you’ve been thinking about this fourth state title all along, or that you’re not thinking of it at all?

“I’m not even thinking about that,” Jones said. “You can’t think about it because you’ll jinx yourself. It’s like when I was a young boy and I’d ask for something for Christmas, and you say, ‘I know it’s coming, I know it’s coming’ and then it doesn’t come and you’re sad. And when I didn’t think about it, it did come to me. So if I don’t think about it, take care of business and stay humble, it’s going to come to me.”

Hard to imagine it won’t, not after seeing this stretch of games by the Red Devils.

It could be a fantastic week upstate, with Mount Vernon, North Salem and Tuckahoe all one win today from going to the final four, too. And on the girls side, Haldane and Briarcliff are already going. Plus we have a whole slew of area private and parochial teams still in the hunt for Federation Tournament of Champions berths.

  1. does anyone really care

there believable, but it is disrespectful and unnecessary to run up scores in this manner. Not what a champion should do, more sad than fantastic

It is not believable that at this stage of the tournament they are that much better than every team they meet.

  3. does anyone really care

yes it is believeable how old is Mookie really ? and an all conference player from another school transfers in. They would be excellent no matter that but lets be real. They are just to dominant. Know you got to be on there side and so am I as a section 1 supporter but they do not need to run up scores as they do. I have seen them in person and they do it in these playoffs, its unnecessary. It is taught that way from T ball CYO modified etc from an early age what did they miss about not running up the score. They do not even need to press to win these games at all so to be pressing 30 up in 3rd quarter of these games come on give me a break

  4. does anyone really care

thats also why Cimmino sh played them- for the competition. All that double talk about we are suppose to win so what do we have to gain. He knew it would be a game and it had more to lose then win is how he should have put it. But none of ylu guys will step up and say anything negative about these gods of coaching for fear access w be denied. Not picking on anyone either. It is understandable thats the way the world works. Also we can all hide if need be that its HS BBall and do not pick on anyone etc etc. Enjoy your columns keep it up

I agree with Cimmino. MV would have absolutely nothing to gain by playing them, and everything to lose.

And we don’t fear that he will deny access. He wouldn’t do that.

But thanks for the compliment, and for reading and commenting.
